At Alderman Bolton Primary School, art lessons engage, inspire and challenge pupils giving them the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Our Art lessons focus on seven elements: line, shape, form space, value, colour and texture. Our aims are to ensure all pupils produce creative work, become proficient in drawing, painting, and sculpture, evaluate and analyse work and learn about great artists. We feel it is important that children know how art both reflect and shape our history, as well as contribute to the culture. We will celebrate this by visiting local art galleries and studying local artists such as, L.S Lowry and Andy Goldsworthy. This year, we will invite artists in to work without children.
We continue to have a deep respect for pupil’s art and thoughtful displays of finished work are considered to be very important as a stimulus for learning and an appreciation of effort and ability. We recognise that there are children of widely different creative abilities in all classes, so we provide suitable learning opportunities for all children by matching the challenge of the task to the ability of the child. This year we will be taking part in the local art exhibition for PAN with theme ‘Same but Different’. This provides our children with the opportunity to have their work displayed in our local theatre in the centre of town.
This year we are working towards achieving our ArtsMark award.
